Janmashtami

Young Indians make a human pyramid in Mumbai in an attempt to reach and break an earthen pot filled with yogurt as they celebrate Janmashtami, which commemorates the birth of the Hindu god Krishna.

Aziz Ansari talk "Otis" and more!

Life+Times: Your new movie is in theaters and you make a cameo appearance in a JAY Z/Kanye video, are you having your best summer ever? Aziz Ansari: It’s been pretty good. I also had a really tasty donut for breakfast. Things are going my way.

L+T: There’s a part in the “Otis” video where you seem to be pantomiming Ye’s lyrics as he stands on top of that Maybach, did Spike tell you to do that or were you just in the moment? AA: Spike just told me to be their hypeman and do whatever I felt like doing, so that was in the moment.
L+T: Did you receive a custom Watch The Throne commemorative watch?AA: Nah, that was just for the producers. I got a Watch the Throne commemorative beer cozy made for myself though.
L+T: Tell us about your character in 30 Minutes Or Less. What attracted you to the role? AA: I play a guy named Chet that helps his best friend Nick (Jesse Eisenberg) rob a bank. The movie is basically an action comedy like Pineapple Express, but it’s about a bank robbery. You and anyone reading this would enjoy it, I’M SURE. I was attracted to the role mainly because I liked the idea of doing a comedy about two normal dudes having to rob a bank.

L+T: Your role in Funny People introduced the world to the “RAAAAAAAANDY” character, where’s his album? Did the Justin Bieber incident make him shy away from recording for good?AA: Yeah, that mixtape kind of got put on indefinite hold because Dave Sitek and I are both super busy trying to do a million other things.
L+T: Please explain to the ladies out there how you are “Dangerously Delicious.”AA: That’s the name of my last standup tour! I love food. Btw girls that are really into food… Swoooooon.
L+T: It seems like you’ve become quite the clotheshorse these days. Who dresses better, you or Donald Glover? AA: Haha, we’ve never actually talked about it, but clearly Donald and I have similar tastes. Much respect for my fellow NBC teammate for holding it down.
L+T: You are currently the greatest Desi comedian the world has ever seen, are there others worth note that’d you’d like to mention?AA: I really like this comedian Kumail Nanjiani. He’s hilarious. Google his last Conan appearance. Hysterical.
L+T How annoying is it when interviewers try to do funny interviews with you because you’re a comedian? AA: It can be slightly annoying.
L+T: You’re not fasting, are you? AA: Is fasting when you eat delicious food whenever you want all the time? If so, then yeah, I’m fasting.

BEY COVERS COMPLEX!

My fave excerpt:
“Jay’s music is more than music. His lyrics have fathered generations,” she says of her husband of three years. “All that he has overcome gives millions so much hope. There are moments when I see his lips moving and I can see lyrics floating above his head and I think, ‘Wow! How did I get so lucky to be able to witness this level of genius so closely?’”

My Memories of the King of Pop

In honor of MJ's 2nd anniversary of his passing, i just wanted to share some memories with you of my most favorite entertainer.
I think my fondest memory of MJ would definitely have to be dragging my mom to go purchase the "HIStory" album in 1996. That was the first time that i was actually old enough to realize what a force that man was. Thriller came out and of course i was wayyyy to young to realize the impact it had on the music industry and fans alike. I think my favorite MJ song would have to be "Human Nature". my favorite video, or should i say, short film of his is "Remember the Time". I stayed up all night one night writing down lyrics to that song, only to open the CD book and find out that MJ put the lyrics to ALL his songs in his CD books. shame on me for not noticing, but i think it made me learn better by trying to decipher his OOs and SHAM'ONs. I remember being TERRIFIED of "Thriller" the song and the music video. i believe it was something like track 9 or 13 on the "History" album, and i used to pray that i would fall asleep before the song came on or i would never be able to have a good night's sleep. he scared the shit out of me! i think at that age, i really thought he was some kind of other being, as if he could turn into a werewolf or a zombie at any moment, because he was just so out of this world. I was enrolled in a drama class over the summer when i was about 10 years old, and one of the numbers we had to perform was MJ's dance from Thriller...lets just say i ROCKED that shit. (i wish i could share it with you but its on VHS) I know people still like to throw dirt on his name, whether it be his appearance or his interest in children, but i dont know how these people can deny the impact he has made musically. So many of these artists have skeletons in their closets, and weird quirks and addictions, but my stance is, if they are still 100% dedicated to their art, how can we judge? i believe that artists are the most misunderstood people on this planet, and MJ is no exception. can you imagine having fans that cared for you more than your own family members? Complete strangers offering their life to you while the people you are surrounded with are giving you nothing that compares to that. SHIET, u would have drug problems too! i mean, in NO WAY am i condoning his behavior, but i'm trying to say that we can't understand his life because it was not ours, and i believe that no one will ever know what it felt like to be Michael Jackson, and therefore we shouldn't be so quick to pass judgement.

Whether emulating his dance moves, his fashion, or his musical riffs, MJ will be now and always the KING OF POP. I love you Michael, Long Live the KING.

BEYONCE-SCHOOLIN' LIFE

(shouts to Miss Info)
check out this joint from Bey off of her new album (deluxe edition) droppin June 28th.

Schoolin' Life - Beyoncé by HDMI44

JAMIROQUAI-SMILE

BRITNEY CHANNELS SOME CLASSICS IN HER NEW VIDEO!

Shouts to Britney Spears always poking fun at her own persona and the way she is portrayed in the media. I LOVE this video because not only is the song super fun, but she channels some great movies and music videos to make her vid even more fun. She starts off by acting out one of my favorite scenes from the movie "Half Baked" where Scarface quits his job at the fast-food joint by telling everyone FUCK YOU I'M OUT! ...then of course she throws in a fight scene and includes an ode to the Terminator movies...it ends with her walking away with "Guillermo" as he turns to the camera and shows his evil side just as Michael Jackson did at the end of Thriller. AMAZING! I love this Brit!

Gucci creative director Frida Giannini on Florence Welch:
"I was captivated by her eccentric style and her willingness to dare. She embodies the cinematic allure and seductive power that is its essence."

Burberry's Christoper Bailey on George Craig:
"For me, George embodies the modern British look."

Calvin Klein's Francisco Costa on Esperanza Spalding:
"I admire her passion and confidence— she is truly a free spirit."

Karl Lagerfeld on Janelle Monae:
"We liked each other from the first second on. Not just because of our style, but also the name: Janelle rhymes with Chanel, no?”

Donatella Versace on M.I.A.:
"Her music and style seemed so fresh and innovative. She is a total artist."

YOU DON'T...WANNA FUCK WITH SHADY...CUZ WHY?

Cuz Shady...will fuckin kill you! On this day in 2000, Eminem released my favorite album of his, the Marshall Mathers LP....enjoy one of my faves off this album, "Kill You"...

WHO RUN THE WORLD?

...GIRLS! This performance is from the 2011 Billboard music awards where Beyonce was honored with the Millenium Acheivement Award. Imagine not only having your family praise you with nothing but great words, but having people like Michelle Obama, Babyface and Stevie Wonder sing your good praises as well! This chick isn't even 30 yet and she's accomplishment what so many have strived to finish in a lifetime. This perfomance was so interactive and like nothing i've never seen, i see she took some of MJ's ideas with incorporating video that looked as though hundreds of herself were dancing with her as if it was an army...Good move Bey! I think my fave part of this video has to be when she says "I looovee me some Jay-Z" SOOO CUTE! GET IT BEY!

Bey's New Album Titled "4"!

BEY IS BACK! She graces the cover of Billboard Magazine this month and has an interview talking about her upcoming album "4" and why she decided on that title:

"We all have special numbers in our lives, and 4 is that for me. It’s the day I was born. My mother’s birthday, and a lot of my friends’ birthdays, are on the fourth; April 4 is my wedding date."

Not to mention Jay's birthday is December 4th too, how could she leave that out? anyway, i cant WAIT for this album!

Who Is It?

On this day in 1993, Michael Jackson released the song "Who Is It" off of the album Dangerous. This might be one of my fave MJ songs, the beat is so ridiculous. if i was a rapper, i'd murder this beat. Can someone do that for me please?

Lakshmi Bathing Suit Causes Outrage!

This bathing suit was on the runway for Lisa Blue Swimwear and the Hindu community bugged out! They believe the design was insulting and have protesting for 3 days by burning Australian flags. Lisa Blue went on to release an apology:

"This range will never be available for sale in any stockists or retail outlets anywhere in the world. We apologise to the Hindu community and take this matter very seriously.
We would like to offer an apology to anyone we may have offended and advise that the image of Goddess Lakshmi will not appear on any piece of Lisa Blue swimwear for the new season, with a halt put on all production of the new range and pieces shown on the runway from last week removed.
Lisa Blue has been born out of a love of conservation, spirituality and a respect for all people. At no time would we ever have intended that the brand would cause offence. The use of images of Goddess Lakshmi was not in any way a measure of calculated risk taking, simply it was a desire to celebrate different cultures and share that through our brand"

Honestly, i'd rock the shit outa that bathing suit, I think its FLY

DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD!

It amazes me that its been almost 11 years since that fatal day of September 11th. But yesterday marked an even bigger event in history, the killing of Osama Bin Laden by US forces. while i wont play into the antics of politics, i will play into the patriotism that comes along with an event like this. this pictures speaks a thousand words; it was shot in downtown NYC by ground zero.

EN VOGUE IN CONCERT!

In my search to get back to the music that used to really move me, i plan to attend this EN VOGUE concert at BB Kings on May 18 at 8pm. Coming from an era of R&B girl groups, En Vogue was at the top of that game in the late 80s early 90s. i am so glad to see all 4 of them together again, and cannot WAIT to see them in concert. cop your tickets on ticketmaster. Here is a throwback for your enjoyment, "Don't Let Go"

Sade ft. Jay-Z "Moon and the Sky"

Jay's verse really struck a cord with me. i have been struggling with the ups and downs of the "what-ifs" in life. i'm learning to not worry about what could or would have been, and to really live in the moment. i think we can all take something from this song, i imagine we have all been in a situation where we wish we could have done something different and perhaps that would have given us a different outcome. learning to accept fate and consequences is the only way to overcome this feeling of "what if?"

HISTORY!

Today marks a HUGE day in the life and legacy of Michael Jackson. Today, in 1983, MJ first debuted the Moonwalk on Motown's 25th Anniversary show. Barry Gordy had asked MJ to be a part of the show even though at the time, he wasn't with Motown anymore. He had one condition, that he be allowed to perform his newest hit "Billie Jean." Here is video from that iconic day

Together Again

I had the great pleasure in attending a JANET JACKSON concert Monday night! First, I would like to say that she lived up to every expectation and more! As we sat and waited for her to come out, the anticipation was killing me! She has SO many hits, I had no idea where she would start. The lights dim, and the big screen plays her iconic video, “Rhythm Nation.” Now, at this point I was a little upset, because I was under the impression that she wouldn’t perform the song (which is CRAZY because it’s one of her biggest hits!). She came out with no wig, au natural hair in a silver onesie with her cleavage looking perfect, as usual. She went straight into her hits with “Pleasure Principle” “What Have You Done For Me Lately” and “Feedback”. She then stopped and just stared at the crowd. Soo reminiscent of Michael Jackson; he would actually do this at the beginning if his concert before he even began to sing. The crowd went NUTS. She owned that stage and everyone in the venue. She then went into “Miss You Much” and “Nasty Girl” just to name a few of her 80’s hits. She left the stage and the monitors began to play a video montage of some sitcoms and movies she’s appeared in such as Good Times and Poetic Justice. She appears on a stool, center stage, and begins her ballad set with songs like “I’ll Never Fall in Love with You Again”. She then rose to power through many of her hits like “I Get So Lonely” “If” “Scream” and she actually performed “Rhythm Nation”!!!!! Janet still dances like she did back in the 80’s and 90’s, with sex appeal and total precision. She did not miss one beat, and she also sang EVERY song. I was so amazed to see her because not only is she a great performer, but I think that may be the closest I’ll ever get to seeing Michael Jackson perform. You can tell that she admired his work ethic and dedication so much that she took that with her throughout her career. Just the way she hits her marks, and snaps her fingers, and two-steps, you can really recognize his influence over her. She then left the stage for a while and the crowd started chanting “JANET! JANET! JANET!” I couldn’t even imagine being backstage and hearing my name like that! It must be such a mind-blowing experience. She then reappeared in a white onesie, boobs on POINT as usual, and she went into her hit “Together Again.” Her dancers made circles around her as she led them in the choreography. The song’s bridge then began to infiltrate everyone’s ears as the big screen showed images of her and Michael Jackson as children. She put her arms out, looked up, kissed her hand and whispered “I love you” to Michael up above. I literally teared up. I could only imagine what she was feeling at that moment. But it was so genuine and heart-felt, there was obviously a reason why she saved that moment for last. I don’t think I’d be able to perform after paying homage to MJ like that. SO EMOTIONAL!
To be honest, I was expecting more theatrics, perhaps bringing a fan on stage and groping them like she’s done in the past, but she's at a an age in her life where you can see her growth and maturity as an artist. She doesn’t even NEED the theatrics. The whole concert was just her and her 6 dancers and her band. Who could ask for anything more?

Don't Go Chasing Waterfalls

This is Left-Eye's verse from "Waterfalls." Still so powerful and relevant today

I seen a rainbow yesterday
But too many storms have come and gone
Leavin' a trace of not one God-given ray
Is it because my life is ten shades of gray
I pray all ten fade away
Seldom praise Him for the sunny days
And like His promise is true
Only my faith can undo
The many chances I blew
To bring my life to anew
Clear blue and unconditional skies
Have dried the tears from my eyes
No more lonely cries
My only bleedin' hope
Is for the folk who can't cope
Wit such an endurin' pain
That it keeps 'em in the pourin' rain
Who's to blame
For tootin' caine in your own vein
What a shame
You shoot and aim for someone else's brain
You claim the insane
And name this day in time
For fallin' prey to crime
I say the system got you victim to your own mind
Dreams are hopeless aspirations
In hopes of comin' true
Believe in yourself
The rest is up to me and you

SPARKIN' JOINTS 3.15.11

Unreleased Michael Jackson tracks!!!

You guys already know how excited i was to hear of this news!!! So back in the 80s, MJ and Freddy Mercury of the band Queen recorded 3 songs together titled Victory, State of Shock and There Must Be More to Life Than This. Queen's Roger Taylor says,
"We are now working on some never-before-released songs that Freddy made with Michael in the early 80s. I'm not aloud to say too much about it but they sound incredible!"
AMAZING!!! That era was when Michael was in his PRIME and i can only imagine that the songs are up to par with all of his other work that was done around that time. and the fact that they are collaborations with a member of QUEEN! i'm so happy that they are releasing this! i'm sure MJ wouldn't have minded, considering it was a collabo, he must have trusted the judgement of Queen's members to finish the track to his liking. I can't WAIT to hear it!

Mehndi Tattoo Art

So today i'm planning to get some mehndi (henna) done on my hands. usually this is done for a wedding ceremony, but of course america adopted the idea and u can get it done pretty much anywhere from Henna Salons to amusement parks. i prefer the original red color but you can also get it done in black. here are some images that i plan to work off of when i get it done...i'll post pictures of mine as soon as it's done!
